Our Mission

Quality healthcare requires access and time. We take time to get to know our patients so as to accurately diagnose and provide the most thoughtful care.

Our goal is to keep patients comfortable in their own environment and out of the emergency department or hospital unless they belong there.

About The Practice

NOLA Doc offers a unique healthcare experience providing physician house calls to the greater New Orleans area. Visits take place in one’s home, hotel, office, or other convenient location, eliminating long wait times in the emergency department or medical office. We offer same day appointments, after hours availability and hour-long visits. Our services include urgent and primary care, IV therapy, hospice and palliative care as well as treatment for opioid dependence.

New Orleans native, Dr. Mark Berenson, founder and Medical Director of NOLA Doc, has been in healthcare for over two decades. Dr. Berenson has experience as an emergency room physician, a hospitalist and a house call physician and understands the most appropriate level of care required for each patient. In 2013, after recognizing that a majority of people can be safely cared for outside of a hospital or clinic, Dr. Berenson founded NOLA Doc, New Orleans own house call medical practice.

All of our clinicians place the utmost importance in time spent with patients. Time allows us to gather a thorough history, the ability to learn about our patient’s environment, and to perform an appropriate physical examination. Time also allows for an accurate diagnosis and a thoughtful plan of care. At the end of our home visits, treatments are in place, questions are answered and a follow up plan is created.

The next time you or a family member requires medical attention, call NOLA Doc for a comprehensive and comfortable healthcare experience.

How it works

Fees include:
  • A consultation with a board certified physician while in the comfort of your home, hotel or other convenient location.
  • The convenience of treatments onsite that make trips to the pharmacy, urgent care or emergency department often unnecessary.
  • A detailed plan of care as well as coordination with other physicians and health care services
  • Clinician travel time within 15 miles from downtown New Orleans
Additional charges may apply for after hours visits, medications, IV therapy, labs, supplies, procedures, and excess physician time and travel.

Payment is due at the time services are rendered, as NOLA Doc is a fee for service practice.

NOLA Doc physicians are considered “out-of-network” providers for all insurance carriers.

Appointment cost depends on the amount of time spent with the physician and the time of day your visit occurs.

Prior to confirming an appointment, a member of our team will review the general cost of the visit. Missed appointments may result in a cancellation fee. By agreeing to be seen by our physicians, you agree to our rates.

We accept cash, debit cards, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Health Savings Accounts (HSA), and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). We also accept cryptocurrency in the form of Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum.

If eligible, and you wish to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, you may request a superbill that contains diagnosis codes and fees and may be submitted directly to insurance carriers.

All charges and payments are the responsibility of the patient at the time services are rendered. Please keep in mind that an insurance plan is a contract between the patient and the insurance company and in no way represents an obligation between the insurance company and NOLA Doc.

NOLA Doc makes no guarantee that patients will receive reimbursement.

Your insurance carrier will review your claim and make a determination as to reimbursement. Your insurance carrier may apply your fees to a deductible, require a copay, and/or deny coverage/payment.  Some services may not be covered by your plan, or your insurance carrier may pay only a portion of the charges.

Please contact your insurance company for answers to specific questions regarding your coverage, their payment policies and reimbursement procedures.

What Our Patients Say

Dr Berenson was very professional and knowledgeable. He makes the time to get to know what's wrong and is very thorough. I probably wouldn't have received the same treatment if I went to a hospital! He knew what was wrong, provided treatment straight away and had the medication available so I also avoided a trip to the pharmacy. I cannot recommend NOLA Doc highly enough - excellent service!
Dr. Mark is wonderful. He took a lot of time with me, offered options and follow up advice. The convenience of having him pop in to my hotel was well worth the cost. And not having to deal with finding a pharmacy also was great. While I hope I don't need his services in the future, I would not hesitate to call him again. Highly recommend!
My mother had been recently diagnosed with a very rare auto-immune disorder and our family was at a loss for how to best care for her. Dr. Berenson came to the house and interviewed my mother, along with the rest of our family to get a sense of her health history. After the interview he shared his thoughts on her condition and gave a very complete diagnosis, suggested some great treatment options and gave her a clear idea of the foods she should avoid. He took his time and made sure my mom understood everything. He checked in regularly after his visit by phone! I have never met a doctor as compassionate and thorough as Dr. Berenson.
